Gauss:AI is named after Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777–1855), one of the greatest mathematical minds in history. Inspired by his brilliance, we believe that human and artificial intelligence are equally valuable—and our goal is to bring them together.

In our name, Gauss stands for human intelligence, the colon “:” symbolizes both and (as in time notation, where 10:10 means 10 hours and 10 minutes) and versus (highlighting the interplay and contrast between human and artificial intelligence). Finally, AI stands for artificial intelligence.

We see human intelligence as a blend of digital skills and human creativity—the ability to read, write, think, and imagine. In today’s world, where machines can read, write, and even appear to think for us, we want to make sure human intelligence remains strong. That’s why our projects actively involve people in thinking, writing, and reflecting.

We also explore cutting-edge AI models, like transformers, and apply them to everyday problem-solving. Our motto sums it up: We transform—ways of thinking, individual lives, and society.

Gauss:AI is the research platform for the linguistic and theoretical findings of MANOVA AI. It brings together three thematic Transformers, each dedicated to a core question of human and artificial intelligence:

  • LingTransformer — Language research in the light of mathematics and Large Language Models (LLMs)

  • LearningTransformer — Learning in the AI era: human learning versus machine learning

  • CodeTransformer — Vibe coding: natural languages versus programming languages

Gauss:AI promotes interdisciplinary dialogue across linguistics, computer science, and education — continuing the Gauss-inspired spirit of uniting human and artificial intelligence.
